CVAC for Weight Loss

 

The CVAC process offers a unique form of passive total-body exercise that stimulates the body’s cells to respond to varying environmental changes in a short period of time.  The CVAC process combines this unique exercise with a natural adaptation to high altitude. Perhaps the most meaningful adaptation that occurs during altitude acclimatization is an increased production of red blood cells, which are responsible for carrying oxygen to the rest of the tissues and organs.  Adipose tissue (fat tissue) in overweight individuals tends to be poorly oxygenated and can lead to an inflammatory response that makes it difficult for the body to access that fat as an energy source. This is also often associated with individuals who are developing a resistance to insulin.  Therefore, the influx of oxygen that occurs at sea level from having a higher amount of red blood cells is believed to be a key mechanism to reducing that inflammation and hence increasing the access of fat cells for metabolic purposes.    

 

This adaptation is similar to what occurs during high endurance exercise training as we see an increase in the respiratory capacity of skeletal muscle that accompanies an increase in the number mitochondria, the power house of the cell.  This adaptation increases the ability to oxidize fat during exercise.  So in essence being fit provides two advantages for weight loss and maintenance; (1) an individual can exercise at a higher intensity and (2) fat oxidation is higher at all intensities of exercise than in an unfit individual.  

 

Along with anecdotal evidence of weight loss from regular CVAC users, the CVAC technology has been studied for its potential effects on reversing insulin resistance and managing blood glucose levels.  Insulin resistance develops when the body’s cells become less and less sensitive to a given amount of insulin and can generally occur as one gets older or has a history of an improper diet. It is also a precursor to diabetes.  It is this insensitivity to insulin that also leads to weight gain and fat accumulation.
